THD Public Health Emergency Preparedness Update - April 1  5:00 p.m.

April 1, 2020  5:00 p.m. CST

COVID-19 Drive-Thru Specimen Collection

THD offers specimen collection for a limited number of individuals who are under- or uninsured and who have symptoms of COVID-19. Call 918-582-9355 for a phone screening by a public health professional to determine your eligibility. The specimen collection location is confidential and by appointment only. You will be given instructions for drive-thru services at the time your appointment is made. If you have insurance, contact your health care provider for screening and testing.

Resources remain limited for swabs and viral transport medium (VTM). At this time, we have supplies to administer the specimen collection to 89 people. The specimens are sent to a lab for testing, with results available in about 24 hours. We continue to request more supplies from the Oklahoma State Department of Health Public Health Lab.

Small & Local Business Resources

The City and TEDC announced today the creation of the Resilience and Recovery Fund, which will provide zero interest loans to small businesses. For more information on the fund and to find additional resources businesses can use, visit www.cityoftulsa.org/COVID-19.

The Tulsa Regional Chamber has numerous resources available to help small businesses with less than 500 employees understand and take advantage of the $2 trillion federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), including the $349 billion Paycheck Protection Program, which authorizes loans with a 4 percent interest rate that are 100 percent guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA). Business owners should prepare to apply as quickly as possible.

Temporary Homeless Shelter Funding

Today, the City of Tulsa will be working to secure funding to operate a temporary homeless shelter at the former Juvenile Justice Detention Center in partnership with Tulsa County. This will help provide adequate space to follow physical distancing practices. Tulsa shelters are at maximum capacity as they follow physical distancing practices.

Tulsa County Update

The Tulsa County Election Board has received all resolutions to reschedule the April 7 election. School board elections will be moved to June 30. Three bond issues on the April 7 ballot will be rescheduled at a later date that is still to-be-determined. LaFortune Park Golf Course is closed until further notice. Additionally, as of Monday at 8 p.m., South Lakes Golf Course in Jenks is also closed.

Food Safety Guidelines

Currently there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with the transmission of the coronavirus. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is working in many ways to help keep people safe while the nation is coping with COVID-19. Food availability and food safety are vitally important to our well-being, and the FDA is working hard to help ensure the foods you, your family, and your pets eat are safe and available.
